Coffee and Cars OKC North Park Mall

Friday night rolls around with no plans for Saturday morning. Work? We do that all the time. Mountain biking? Love doing that, but it is supposed to be pretty cold and windy. We would go ride our motorcycles since it has heated gear, but front wheel is off my R1200GS awaiting a replacement tire.

Up pops a notice on my Facebook page from an acquaintance and Mini car owner, Dean Wilhite, inviting me to the Coffee and Kars gathering on the first Saturday of each month. Oh yea. I forgot about that. Sure sounds fun as long as I dress warm.

I had followed Dean’s rebuild of his Mini over the winter on Facebook. I had never seen it in person. He had rebuilt the motor and dropped a 1.3 liter under the hood, which should make for a mean Mini. Sounded like a plan.

This is Dean Wilhite's super cool Mini. He just finished a complete rebuild including the motor.

I woke up next morning and invited Kay along. She was unexpectedly free so went along with me for the morning trip, my first time to Coffee and Kars in Oklahoma City.
Despite the cold weather, there was a wide variety of cars there, ranging from several jellybelly colored Lotus Elise sports cars to a deep red Ferrari (of course it is red), Porches, plus lots of new and older American muscle cars. My favorites were the cars that people had obviously put elbow grease into restoring and rebuilding. As Dean said at the gathering, there are cool cars that you can buy, and then there are cool cars that you make. I prefer the latter, although the ones you can just buy are pretty darn cool also.
We spent the morning browsing the cool cars, talking with some of the owners, and enjoying a brisk and windy day looking at awesome hunks of sheet metal. I am not a big fan of taking pictures at car shows, since you can’t control the background or lighting. I just grabbed a few snapshots with my D3s and a 35mm lens to record what cars were there.

This is nearly identical to the Ford pickup I had in high school. Mine was a bit nicer and solid red. Sure wish I had that truck back again.

The problem with 427 Cobra's is I can't tell which cars are real and which ones are repli-cars. They all look good and I would drive any of them, but the real deal would be way cooler.

Downsides of carpet allowance in lieu of new carpet

Sellers often ask if they can just provide a carpet allowance on a listing in lieu of installing new carpet. In their mind, this is a benefit to the buyer since it allows the buyer to choose their own color and style of carpet. The benefit to the seller is they don’t have to deal […]

Butterfield Overland Stage route on dirt bikes

Kay and I both love history, and we love riding motorcycles. We often combine our dual sport rides with a bit of historical sleuthing. This time we decided to follow in the footsteps of the Butterfield Overland Stage Route as it made it’s way through Oklahoma from St. Louis to the 1850’s gold fields of […]
